We've a new family member - a new puppy! Fudge the Cairn Terrier arrived on Saturday, we'd to go to Cumbria to get her from a very nice lady, Trudy, who breeds Cairn's. (feel free to get in touch if you want her details) She'd separated Fudge from her mum when the pup was 6 weeks old and has also house trained her - the wee pup is a smart cookie, she knows to do her thing on the newspaper we've put down in the kitchen, that's a great start when getting a new puppy. In addition, when in Cumbria, we could see Fudge's mum and dad, the conditions they live in and get a feel for how well looked after they all are, it's just a pity all dog breeders don't seem to be dog lovers like Trudy is!

So far, Fudge has settled in quite well, Saturday night, her first at home, went superbly well, the newspaper was well used, the little pup was eating and drinking just fine and come bedtime, she settled in her little bed and we didn't hear a peep from her all night! She did discover her voice next morning though, the central heating came on for a little while and heated the radiator in the kitchen - Fudge noticed and investigated but it must have been too hot for her and she started barking at the radiator, well, if you can call it barking, more of a squeak, but funny! Sunday night didn't go so well, Fudge decided she didn't like being alone, and discovered she could whine very effectively, I ended up sleeping next to her as I want her to get used to her bed and not want into ours! On Monday evening I took her to the vet for her first vaccination, notice how I ended up getting the short straw and taking the wee dog, but as it happened she didn't get all huffy with me. So she's now fine to play with other vaccinated dogs and have a wander about our garden - and after the next shot she'll be able to go out in public, that'll be better as Marlyn will be able to walk the dog to school when picking Caitlyn up. We've decided to get her "chipped" too, when she goes for her next vaccination, she'll be given an additional injection with a ID microchip - hopefully it'll never be needed but it'll done - just in case!

It's been just under a year since we last had a dog in the house, and after having to take Tara to the vet last year, I wasn't sure if I wanted another but Fudge is just a wee sweetie and is just what's needed - every home should have one!
